My Mums favourite piece of my work !?!

Slightly strange post, but these photo-shop pieces are the result of my research into Salvador Dali. He is famous for his surrealism style of art work. Surrealism art uses the element of surprise, with objects in the wrong places or being used in the wrong way.

Using photo-shop I have created my own kind of surrealism art inspired by Dali but in a more modern way.

I got my idea from my Mums floristry magazines, as they always contain really big colourful hand-ties. This is ideally how my collection will look, therefore I have combined fashion photography with full photographs of bouquets. By cropping resizing and using the lasso tool I have been able to keep the shapes and use them to look like real garments.

The element of surprise is that when you look at the image you are able to see the model is actually wearing the hand-tie.
This is my favourite piece of work I'm yet to create using photo-shop, I believe it's worked really well. I am thinking of using this technique for one of my promotional boards for my current brief.
My mum especially likes these images and has agreed to make me up some hand-ties in my specific colour scheme, to create more of these images.Check Spelling

My Mum as my inspiration !!!

Whether its the 12 hour day at work or the 3 glasses of champagne Ive had this evening I can't get this idea out of my head.

I've spent near enough my entire summer at my Mums beautiful, gorgeous marvelous, amazing shop in Heswall on the Wirral were she is a florist. As this summer has progressed I have become more and more interested in flowers and the skill that my Mum shows in every hand-tie and buttonhole she does. The colours, textures, shape and scents of the flowers she has been using have been giving me so many dress idea its unbelievable . I have not had one idea flow as easy as this one in a long time and I believe some of my dress design ideas are very strong and its all thanks to my Mum ! how much closer to home can inspiration get than this !!

As soon as I have my scanner up and running I'll upload some of my flower inspired dresses for you to have a peek at.

Also I am very excited as the Mother is slowly teaching me her trade ! she had me doing the wedding flowers with her from 8:30 this morning until just a couple of hours ago ! So maybe my models could be walking the catwalk not only wearing a flower but carrying a small bouquet ;)

Diors Couture Magic

Last week was Paris Couture fashion week. For me this is the most exciting time in the fashion calendar as it shows the creme of the fashion crop at their very best !

Usually I am the first to complain at a Galliano R-T-W collection as he never matches the effortless style that Christian Dior brought in the 40's-50's. However when it comes to couture Galliano is one of the most outrageous , shocking and purely brilliant designers there is.

This year Galliano has taken florals to a new level ... instead of looking at the patterns and prints of flowers Galliano has used the shape, texture and extreme colours to create pieces to actually mirror both exotic and traditional flowers. Even the catwalk was decorated with huge plastic parrot tulips to create a tropical paradise.

textured dip dyed maxi

The collections used a beautiful colour palette of violet and pink, orange and black, indigo and lime , rich royal blue and scarlet red. Fabrics to mirror the texture of flower petals such as chiffons, tulles and mohair were used in layers to create bustles and volume. Fabrics were also dip dyed and stained to get the effect of veins within flower stems.

Petal detail dress

My main reason for being so amazed by this collection is because to me John Galliano had taken away the femininity from Dior however with the volumed skirts and nipped in waists it was as though the 1950's Dior was slowly making its appearance once again. I can only hope next year that we see, huge A-line skirts , tiny tiny waists and delicate Mary Jane shoes .... of course with the beautiful hats !
